NOTICE

Electrum-XMR represents a community-driven adaptation of the Bitcoin wallet, Electrum, tailored for Monero. Please note, it is not endorsed by Electrum Technologies GmbH, the official supporter of Electrum products.

IMPORTANT NOTICE (December 2022)

Electrum and Electrum-XMR versions prior to 2.2.1 are susceptible to a phishing scheme, where malicious servers prompt users to download counterfeit Electrum versions. To mitigate user risk, older versions no longer have access to public servers and require immediate updating. Only obtain software updates from electrum.org and electrum-xmr.org to ensure security.

Notes for Windows users:

  • Older versions of Windows may require the installation of the KB2999226 Windows update.
  • Electrum-XMR binaries often trigger responses from various antivirus programs. We cannot control this. Antivirus software uses heuristics to determine whether a program is malicious, often resulting in false positives. If you trust the project's developers, you can verify the GPG signature of Electrum-XMR binaries and safely disregard any antivirus warnings. If you do not trust the project's developers, you should build the binaries yourself or run the software from the source code.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a version of Electrum-XMR for Android?
Currently, there is no Android version available for Electrum-XMR. If you require a mobile wallet, consider exploring Monerowallet.
Does Electrum-XMR support Segwit?
Yes, it does.
What is a “seed”?
The "seed" in Electrum-XMR is a 128-bit random phrase used to generate private keys. It can be represented as a 12-word mnemonic code. Regular backups are not necessary because you can recover your wallet from this seed, which can be memorized or written down on paper.
What should I do with my old Monero addresses and wallet when switching to Electrum-XMR?
When transitioning to Electrum-XMR, it's recommended to transfer all your Monero from your old wallet to one of the addresses in your Electrum wallet. This ensures all your Monero is secured with your seed. While older versions of Electrum could import private keys from another client, it required separate backup as they couldn't be restored by the Electrum seed.
What does it mean to “freeze” an address?
Freezing an address means the funds in that address won't be used for sending Monero. You can't send Monero if you don't have enough funds in non-frozen addresses.
What is the gap limit?
The gap limit is the maximum number of consecutive unused addresses in your deterministic sequence of addresses. Electrum-XMR uses this limit to stop address generation. By default, it's set to 5, meaning the client generates new addresses until 5 unused addresses are found.
